Portfolio Manager

Sisedi’s investment team has an opportunity for a qualified investment professional to join the team.


The incumbent will form part of a dynamic team responsible to provide strategic management and oversight of assets invested on behalf of Sisedi’s clients. The successful candidate will play an important role in designing, implementing and monitoring investment strategies. We are looking for a talented and hard-working individual with excellent analytical and quantitative skills, an in-depth understanding of investments, and the ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the organisation.
This role will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Investment Committee and the Board.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that investment strategies are structured to meet client needs and expectations, including requirements for investment returns, risk management, diversification, liquidity and other relevant factors.
  • To construct and manage investment portfolios based on the investment mandate and client requirements within the investment philosophy and strategy
  • Evaluation of new investment opportunities, including in traditional and alternative asset classes.
  • Build investment team including continuous skills and knowledge development.
  • Manage portfolios with the aim of maximizing investment returns (including asset allocation, stock picking, risk management and portfolio compliance).
  • Assisting with setting and monitoring investment mandates and performance, including setting benchmarks and performance targets, setting risk limits and negotiating asset management fees.
  • Setting strategic asset allocation for client assets
  • Supporting consultants with due diligence, selection, and monitoring.
  • Representing client interests on various investment committees.
  • Preparation and oversight of investment reports and proposals which are presented to various senior internal Investment and Governance Committees.
  • Ongoing research into investment industry developments and portfolio structuring techniques.
  • Providing investment guidance and mandate support to other African business units.
  • Supporting implementation of asset owner responsible investment policy and strategy with a focus on climate change
  • Remarkable knowledge of the applicable risk, compliance, legislation, governance, audit competencies impacting investment management processes.
  • Skills, Qualifications And Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Investments, Financial Management, Economics, Business Management, or any relevant business-related disciplines.
  • A Certification in Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or MBA in Finance or Chartered Accountancy (CA) or any Post-graduate business related qualification will serve as an added advantage.
  • CA (NAM), Qualified actuary, Masters in Investments, Bcom plus CFA who has at least 8 years of relevant financial services and/or investment experience.
  • Proven experience in product development, investment and financial asset management in a financial institution environment.
  • Deep interest in investments and strong quantitative analysis skills.
  • Strong understanding of investment strategies and risk management.
  • Passion for producing great investment outcomes for clients, and for protecting them from unnecessary risks and conflicts of interests.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to build constructive relationships with key stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to confidently and assertively participate in committee and other group discussions to ensure that client interests are clearly communicated and taken into account in investment decision making.
  • Ability to produce high quality written reports with robust arguments for senior management and Investment Committee consumption the ability to successfully manage and deliver multiple strategic investment initiatives.
  • Ability to manage multiple portfolio’s with a Multi-Manager perspective
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Self-starter with strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Ability to understand the legislative and regulatory environment within which Sisedi’s client’s investments are managed, including Namibia.
  • Strong ethos of continuous learning and research, to stay abreast of cutting edge developments in the investment management and asset ownership world.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with the ability to build and manage teams.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office suite and relevant investment portfolio management Software Preference will be given to appropriately qualified, previously disadvantaged Namibians.
